heres when I first got her.... She was hugger orange but that color is long gone.
Can you guess what engine is going into it?

got the doors on
I updated my chinsey motor mounts.
I built a manifold. thanks to western waterjet for the flanges.
manifold welds
heres the finished manifold
this is how I modified the holset exhaust housing for external wastegates and a 3" v-band I took the exhaust housing off, put it on the mill, milled off as much as I could of the stock 5 bolt flange, ground and smoothed the rest, welded a plug where the old wastegate hole was, and welded on a v-band flange I turned on the lathe. I welded the cast iron with nickel steel rod of course This is the turnout:
new setup is: same engine Megasquirt II EFI running fuel and ignition distributorless ignition LS1 coils holset hx35w that I modified for external wastegates twin scroll manifold 2 tial 38mm MVS wastegates C4 transmission built ford 8" with 3.80 ratio and a powertrax lockrite locker still stock axles (will upgrade)

It usually doesn't taste as bad as it did that night. The fact it was beating around Josh's truck for a couple hours prior to drinking it and it was warm probably didn't help in the slightest.

Looks good dude. I would really like to come check out your paint sometime. I want a subtle satin black... the metal flecks are kind of intriguing. (Do you like how you've done all this crazy fab work, and I ask about paint... I'm such an ass)

yeah it is a sweet ass color though. the metal flake really wakes up the paint... Its cool when your standing far away from it, it looks gun metal gray, but when you get close it looks like flat black. Its pretty cheap paint. It scratches really easy because its single stage. heres the website http://www.tcpglobal.com/kustomshop/ksflatz.aspx

Been a couple weeks since I touched my car. Time to do some more fab work. I think Im going to shit can the intercooler I have and go with one of those garrett water to air cores. I have intercooler piping to fab up though so more pictures coming!

If you do the water/air intercooler setup how are you going to cool the water? Are you going to run an ice box or a radiator or both? I like the idea of using both so the car is streetable but you can use dry ice at the track for super low and consistant temps.

get a nice small thin radiator, pump, and a reservoir. put the radiator up front. I could fill the reservoir with ice water.
Subject: Re: 2 years progress on the vega September 27th 2010, 4:57 pm
A guy I knew that did that would boil the water after two SCCA laps. I think a water/air setup would be sweet but considering the pain of constantly adding ice/water, I think I'd just go with the air/air for simplicity. But that's just me, either way its coming along nicely.

I am very limeted on space up fron for an air/air cooler. I really dont want to cut up the front grille. plus... thats two laps of hammering on the car not cruising down the street or on the highway.

is this car going to be more of a cruiser or a drag car? for some reason I thought I had heard somewhere that you were planning on it being more of a drag car? Might just be my bad memory.
If it's a drag car.... liquid to air would be an easy decision for me If it's going to be driven more on the street... it would be a toss up for me, but the simplicity of an air/air would probably win me over. An intercooler doesn't have to be huge to be efficient. Usually the effeciency is more tied to the price tag than the size of the core.

it will be more street than anything. those garrett cores are a small package for a decent price (280 bucks). and like I said before... I dont want to cut up my front grille, those are rare and mine is in really good condition. I am very limited on space up front. Besides if I remember correctly, the GMC cyclones and typhoons came stock with water/air intercoolers.
