| no... just a plain car guy.
But European.....is..... um..... well..... IDK! not fun to work on at all. lol
There are like three things I hate to do and in this order. clean out sewer pipe..... body work.... or work on European cars.
I guess if I worked at the dealership where you had all the special tools needed and the real scan tools for them and the actual factory manuals it might be ok. But even the factory wiring schematics are crappy.... freakin track wiring schematics. Stupid..... i can't read it right. I mean they're good cars..... but getting parts in this part of the country is a month long chore. Correct service information is hard to get... the generic scan tools don't work with them half the time.... I mean really? you cant pull codes out of the computer now that you installed a aftermarket radio because it's on the same comm link? really? wow! Not to mention every single one I've worked on other then just simple maintenance you have to get some special tool or redneck one together.... most of them you can't even replace the timing belt without some freakin wacky alignment tool cause their is no marks or something dumb. And a head gasket? What? you can't take the head bolts out with just a normal socket? what about allen? what about torx? Nope? none of them? you have to use what? a #10 poly-drive socket? what is that? It kinda looks like a cross between a torx and a spline drive? So my $100k of normal hand tools won't take out the freakin head bolts? I have to buy a $150 socket just for head bolts on a stupid VW? wow Only thing worse then working on European stuff is working on a Land rover..... NOT a Toyota land cruiser.... a Land rover..... oh wait.... It's European too. Nevermind. lol

By the way.... I'm not trying to rag on your car if thats what it seams like I'm doing... sorry. Welcome to the site. I'm sure there are people somewhere in this state that love to hypo Euro stuff..... I'm just not one of them.... at least... not in a conventional manner. lol

| A better swap would be a TDI into an MK1 GTI. You'd have more power, and get 70 miles per gallon. Link | |

| I now agree after doing some research. I think I am now going with a G60. Single or possibly twin turbo. | |
