This is going to be my build thread for my newest set of wheels. A 2000 LS Chevy S10, 2wd 4.3 ltr auto with 198k on the clock.

Pictures are currently limited to this one as the truck is covered in snow.
00' Daily Dime S10

I wasnt really looking for another vehicle but had toyed with the idea of getting another ride that would be better on mpg and more travel reliable. Big Jim is an awesome truck, but hes getting to the point that needs some work. Not very travel friendly seeing as it is geared so low and only gets 10 mpg at best.

How I accquired the dime:

A buddy of mine was trying to sell the S10 but it had some issues with the abs that he wanted to get checked out. He had taken it to a handful of shops and apparently they couldnt figure out what was wrong, so he asked if I could take a look at it. Checked it out and found that the abs tone ring was gone so the rotors needed replacement, also needed a tierod end, idler arm, alignment, and driveshaft rebuilt. Gave him a quote for parts and labor but he said he didnt want to put that much into it since he was trying to sell. I have always liked the 2wd S10s and have entertained the idea of owning one in the past. Asked him what he wanted out of it which was $2200, and made what I thought was a realistic offer for the truck in the condition it was. He said he felt better selling it to someone who knew what was wrong with it and could fix it so he accepted my offer of $1300.

Plans for the Dime:

I want to have a clean and reliable daily driver that still stands out from the crowd a little bit. First and formost Im going to fix all the little things that it needs to be dependable and more efficient; second comes custom touchs that set it off including lowering.

As of now I am laid off from work so money needs to stay tight, and because its cold out work on the truck is going to wait until spring. I will update when I have more ideas planned out and work begins.

So finally got some better weather so I went out and snapped a few more pics of the Dime. I also ordered some new headlights and corner lamps the other week so I tore the front down so I can get that all switched. A new bumper is now on the list of things that need replaced, this one is too dinged up for me to bother straightening. So in the next week I need to spray the grille since its all faded, and get some new silverstar bulbs.

Havent updated this for a while. Honestly hadnt really done to much with it through winter. Now that its nicer out and all the snow (well major snow) is out of the way I have started getting it up to snuff. I need to organize pictures, but so far no pictures that are spectacular to show or that we all havent scene on countless other vehicles.

To start out, I finished up the front end. Got the grille sprayed black, got new bulbs and hung the lights. Doing this alone cleaned up the overall apperance of the truck dramatically. Next thing I did was address the third door.

The handle on the thrid door of the S10s is a cheap plastic on metal, prone to break. The previous owner had replaced the entire handle assembly multiple times, so I set out to permanently fix the problem. I bought a aluminum handle and disassebled the housing, removing the plastic lever and installing the aluminum one. WHile I had the handle off the door I was able to activate the rods and open the third door for the first time since I had owned it. To my suprise it opened fairly easily (as they tend to rust to the lower striker). To my dislike I also discovered that the upper striker had broke. I replaced the striker as well as rehung the door with new door pins and pushings as it was sagging a bit allowing wind to slip past the seal while driving.

Next I set out to tackle the brakes and determine what all the front end needed as there has been a hellacious popping and clanking coming from the front along with some humming. I replaced the rotor/hub assembly, and installed new calipers as the mounting pins and holes of the old were wore out and contributing to the front end noise. Rear brakes looked good....shy of the last person to work on the brakes installing the shoes wrong. They had put both leading shoes on one side of the axle and both trailing on the other, so that was a simple swap and shes stopping great now with no ABS light on and no squealing.

Again I have pictures but need to organize and resize them. Hoping to update a lil more tomorrow with some pictures, even though I might be the only one following this, more or less just a journal of its growth and progress.

So I totally spaced that I hadnt posted updated pictures. So here they are plus some more

Must not have gotten a pic of the handle with new aluminum one installed but this is what it looked like before I fixed it.

Found whats been giving me the grinding/humming noise. The stock driveline has two kardan joints like this one...complete junk. The kardan joint was bad and it also had a bad ujoint. Took it in and had a new shaft made, eliminating the kardan joints. So now its just a simple 3 joint shaft. Who thought having 5 joints on one driveline was a good idea!!? I'll have to put it on a hoist and get a pic of the new shaft, one I took got deleted.

This is just a picture of one of the new leather seats I bought sitting next to the junk stock dime seat. The leather seats are out of a 00' Honda passport. Just need some flat stock so I can modify a way to put the honda seat on the dimes track.

And one pic of it just sitting in the truck minus the track. Put it in there so I can bring the seat to work and modify the dimes bracket.

And finally a shot of the sonoma hood in place. Its a little tweaked on the drivers side and needs some massaging but once its fixed and sprayed, its gunna look so much better!

Let the baggin begin. Front end wasnt going to last as long as I had hoped, balljoints and steering so miles away from giving out so I decided it needed to be fixed. Parked it on the side of the house, put it on stands and ripped the entire front end apart. I got to thinking, Im already here why dont I just go a little bit further and bag the front. I would have had to rip it all apart again and I hate doing things twice if its not needed

Brought the control arms into work to knock out the bushings and balljoints and start modifying them. The stock arm is raised on the sides, to allow the control arm more articulation the humps need to be cut out and welded flat so when airred out it doesnt bind on them holding the vehicle up. First pic is the control arm uncut, second is with humps cut out, and last two is of the plate getting welded onto one side. Need to do some more clean up on the welds. Bags should be here tomorrow so I can start cutting and clearancing the frame.
