Im a hardcore GM guy and those are cool. but it looks kinda like the guys driving those 5.0s need a driver mod. Z06s r hell quick but i don't think they would pull that hard right away with a good driver in the stang. but maybe thats just my opinion.

z06 had vararam and cat back exhaust... the 5.0 has k&n drop in filter, complete exhaust and a tune... seems pretty accurate to me...I mean when I raced the shelby he barely pulled on me...

I'm gonna race my dad this summer and we will see what happens...

Stock for stock the two cars have very similar power. The corvette is a lighter car.

I'm not sure what this guy is talking about (the one who posted the videos) as far as "full exhaust". Can you even buy headers for the 5.0 yet? Catless midpipes and axle backs, with the latter producing little if any gains, yes.

Anything can happen on the street.

Mishri is ditching his 07 and getting a new 2011 this spring. He'll be doing a intake,tune, and a catless midpipe. Should be good for 430'ish at the wheels. I'm sure he'd be game for a race. Especially at the track.

yeah..my 13.5@102 was too slow.. need the 5.0.. with the mods i should have by the time the track opens I think the 5.0 should have a high 12 in it easily at acton.. people are in the 11s with intake, exhaust and tires.

something is odd with those vids.. stock z06 most people get around 12.5@115 and one person got an 11.78(kind of a questionable run imo, considering the next best is 2 ppl did 11.9).. people are getting the 5.0 to 12.8@109 so that 6mph trap difference is big though.. hard to say what their best will be when the car is so new still.. guy on the forums has gotten 12.2@111 with just using a hand held tuner and slicks.. otherwise stock.. traction is quite an issue even in stock form on these cars.. wish they had come with wider tires..

do you know what kind of et/trap most people can expect out of a z06 with those mods?

That is impressive on the stock engine. Though as you expect me to say - who knows how long it will hold together. Ditto on the transmission.

Two cars I know of, one on stock tires and one on MT drag radials, pulled 11.9 ET with a 1.8 60'. This was of course in good air (sea level). Same mods Mishri is planning on getting. Intake, tune, and a catless midpipe. No headers. No nothing else. Not bad for a 3500 lb. boat eh?

High 12 or low 13 should be reachable at our track IMO.

a modified z06 (unkown mods) vs a 5.0 with unkown mods.. hmm.. that video doesn't show much.. I do like how people are pitting the 29,000 GT against cars that are 60,000+ now though.. (like the BMW M3) and 75k for the z06.. did you ever think ford would release a mustang GT that is being compared to some of the best "cheaper" sports cars like the corvette z06 and bmw M3? (the c5 z06 was 50k.. adjusted for inflation its 61k)

the c5 z06 puts out 360whp and 350wtq stock from what i've seen. the curb weight of 3100 lbs is pretty light. the curb weight of the 5.0 is 3600lbs, the GT500 is 3900lbs. for the purposes of paper/benchracing you can say 100lbs = 10hp = .1 in the 1/4 the new mustang GT puts out similar numbers to the z06 stock.. so it needs to get 50whp to overcome it's weight.. an intake+tune will usually get them close to that mark.. hitting 400whp with intake+tune alone isn't uncommon.. and with offroad mid-pipe + intake people have seen as high as 430whp. which then puts it into the "beating a stock z06" territory.. and with people getting high 11s that sounds about right.. not too shabby all in all..


It's kind of fun when people have to compare cars above their class to find competition (meaning, I think your c5 z06 is in a class above the 2011 GT) even though you can find c5 z06s for less than a new 5.0 comparing costs of new/used cars gets kind of pointless because then you can find an old fox body for cheaper or ive seen 800whp termi for 19,000.. that sorta stuff...


post some vids of some 2010 camaros beating 5.0s (it's kind of a drivers race stock for stock.. 5.0 is a bit faster but better driving from the camaro or getting the hit can give the camaro a win)

I think its funny when you compare a c6 z06 against a shelby gt500 and the shelby is runnin a 12.5 (stock) and the Z06 is runnin a 11.7 stock lol (heck my c5 z06 with 405 hp will beat the 500 hp shelby at sea level stock vs. stock)...you say that my z06 is a class above a 2011 mustang gt.... I agree with you there but the funny thing is my car is 8 years old and you still have to modify the mustang to get it to compare lol...if you check the corvette forums people are getting high 11s out of bone stock C5 Z06 vettes...and before you go dissin the new camaros...the new 5.0 is barely faster and the camaro is 200ish pounds heavier and WAY taller geared...lol I just love the old ford vs. chevy debate!!! The C6Z06, as well as being in a different "class", is also a more expensive car than a Shelby. Significantly so.

I've seen Z cars run at our track and even accounting for a FULL SECOND difference between sea level the posted times come no where even close to what you read on the forums. C6Z06 ran a 12.5 up here. Your C5Z06 ran at best a 13.4 to my knowledge. These times are way, WAY off what you read on forums even accounting for altitude.

When doing the bench racing thing it helps to be clear on whether we're comparing absolute best posted times between cars or averages. C5Z06's probably don't run high 11s at sea level on average just like stock 5.0 rustangs don't run bottom 12s on average either.

lol I agree...I mean look at my time... a 13.68...I owned the car less than a month...first time I have ever drove with drag radials....first time I ever raced at a drag strip....and it was over 100 degrees out with me runnin the air conditioning up until it was time to run... enginge temps runnin 230+...

they are called one run wonders, amazing air, somehow manage to get traction and pull everything off perfectly.. over owning the car for 8 years.. ask anyone and typically you'll see them running mid 12s at sea level. and you'll typically see a 5.0 and a camaro running a low 13.. and these are competent drivers in decent conditions..

you have a 2 seater that was labeled a super car by many people.. the mustang isn't even close to being in competition with it.. same with the GT500.. they really cant compare because they are built for entirely different platforms.. and dollar for dollar you'd have to compare the GT500 to just a regular corvette, not a z06.. currently Ford doesn't produce anything to compete with the corvette and the closest thing they have come to it recently was the Ford GT, at a price point above the corvette..

you'd have to a rabid fanboi to think that the 5.0 isn't the best buy in it's class.. (compared to challenger/camaro) for 2010 models I would have picked a camaro SS as best..

It took Ford 8+ years to finally come out with an engine that could destroy the LS1. I'm with you there. Previous to this you had to force feed the 4.6 or you weren't gonna keep up.

I should be runnin a 13.4 up here then to compensate for elevation...So, now that I have more experience with launching a car with drag radials a 13.0 isn't out of the question.... (launch, temp, basically everything going perfect...)

I don't dispute any of this. I think that the 13.4 up here is probably about correct. What I was saying is that 11.9 is not an average time. Seems like you agree with that.

I also believe a 13.0 isn't out of the question with drag radials and experience.

and just to clarify to anyone else who enters this thread.. what i said about camaro vs mustang is in regards to price and performance and reviews of interior.. doesn't mean I think there is anything wrong with choosing a camaro SS for it's looks or you prefer the LS3 or whatever.. personally taste will obviously be a factor..

I agree that the new 5.0 is a solid powerplant...but I wouldn't go as far as say it destroys a ls1...it definitely does NOT destroy a ls6 or ls2 or ls3 lol...remember...the ls motors are a 2 valve per cylinder pushrod engine lol....and they make more power and get better gas mileage than the ford motor while be bigger in displacement...

Just to let everyone know...( that doesn't know me personally) this is all in good fun don't take it all personal and get upset about it lol!!! I just love talkin trash once in awhile....(I do it to my dad all the time about his 2011 5.0 cs lol)

hmm camaro is rated at 16/25 with the LS3 vs 17/26 on the 5.0.. pretty close.. the v6 also is close to the v6 camaro.. displacement for fuel ecnomy isn't exactly a factor.. it's going to take fuel to make power.. even the 2.0 turbo'd people suffer from that.. nothing wrong with pushrod and 2v and all that.. i think that is a silly argument to get into.. displacement, boost, hp/litre.. what matters is how fast it goes and how to some people how it handles..

exactly bud!!! If I was gonna build a purpose built drag car it wouldn't be my Z... actually to be honest the only other mod I'm gonna do is a CAI on my car....will probably end up trading for a used C6 Z06 in a couple years...

Like ive said before GM vs FORD will never die. Personally im a GM fan. the new 5.0 r nice not something i would go out and buy but still a neat car. As far as which one is faster who knows. At the end of the day the real winner seems to be the guy with the deeper pockets IMO. i personally am one to mod my vehicles. i can never see my self leaving a vehicle stock. So at that point it comes down to part selection and how and what is was built for.

I like mustangs and vettes pretty much equally if you want to know the truth. I know they aren't directly comparable. But if I were looking to dump 30 large on a car I could go either way right now between a used GT500 or used C6 vette.

A lot of bench racing on this thread! Rocket, I wil take any stock GT500 and dominate any z06 that is stock in a drag race! Hands down the S197 is a better car to for drag racing. You can't calculate setup as being a factor! A corvette is a shitty drag car. Thats why they make just as much power and our lighter but will still run slower times compared to an s197. It's the setup! Like I said to much bench racing! Plus what other car can you spend $1100 and make 125 more rwhp!

hhmmm.... so you are saying that at sea level you are gonna take a bone stock shelby gt 500 (as is from the showroom floor including tires...) and beat a c6 z06????? Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!! 4000lbs.... vs 3200 lbs.... 285 rear tires....vs 325s....you know as well as I do that stock vs. stock from the showroom...tires, oil...you name it the shelby don't have a chance dude...nice try though lol!

just wanted to say....I barely lost to a shelby with a good driver (from a 40 roll) nik (blue 5.0 fox body) was with me and personally knows the guy....and I'm 100 hp less than a c6 z06 not to mention we're not at sea level...

Yeah we raced the 07 Shelby from a 40 mph roll and lost by about 1-1.5 car lengths, and the driver of the shelby is no amatuer, he has owned sports cars since he was in high school.

hey brett by the way... archie cochrane ford told my dad that they have to install the ford racing parts (mufflers, tuner, k&n filter) for him so that he can keep the warranty...is there any way he can go with either a different brand of tuner (performance parts...) that won't void it? (not to mention he doesn't want to pay to have it done)

When I took my car in to Archie for service at one point I asked them about the intake. Kelly who I think is the red team service manager literally told me "We don't care about that". That isn't to say they can't screw with you if something breaks and you are modded. But it is what he told me.

Damn that sucks. After reading Ryan's post here (from street racing subforum) about the GT500 out at our track I'd be shocked if I can squeeze a 12 second slip out of my car.

Mishri you better get those gears dude. You're probably gonna need 'em if you really want to have a shot @ 12s.

Maybe he just saw some terrible drivers and that was it. I dunno. Definitely not very impressive.
