Opportunity? What would you do?

So as some of you know I work at Les Schwab as a certified alignment tech. Job is decent, I get paid very well, and benefits are second to none. However I am at the top of the pay scale unless I go into management which I would love to do and have a business degree that would benefit me. I have been with the same store here in Missoula for almost 6 years and the job seems stagnant. For the last year or so I have tossed around the idea of either transfering within the company to a different store or changing careers.

Earlier today, one of my old assistant managers got a hold of me and said he has a buddy that runs store #33 in Grants Pass Oregon who is looking for someone to run the alignment center. This isnt a management position, more like a team leader. The position sounds great, there have always been things that I would like to change here and that I thought we could do different to be more productive and profitable. There is no increase in wages or benefits, hours and scheduling would be the same. The things I would be gaining are small, run the shop, and I wouldnt have to be working on the cars. It could lead to greater oportunities further down the road, although there really is not much difference between what I do here and what I would do there. It would be a change that I have been pondering, but at the same token I dont know anyone from there or around there. They need someone asap, so I am supposed to sleep on it (which I clearly am not able to do, insomnia) and call and talk to the manager on monday. I am torn and not sure what I should do or think. I am seeking the insight of my fellow auto brethren, what would you do

Is there a chance that you could move into management eventually in the store you are at now?

I'm not sure about your situation. Do you have a family? Wife, kids?
The other thing you have to consider is cost of living. You said you would be making pretty much the same amount. I haven't looked into it but how much more is the cost of living there than here?
If money isn't going to be an issue I say why not If you don't have anything tying you here.

Single, no kids, no mortgage. And cost of living of Grants Pass is pretty similar to here. Its alot smaller of a town then Missoula, and the shop there only does about half of the monthly sales we do here. And as far as management at this store, not really. Because our store is so large and we have alot of senior members (15-20 yrs with the company), its hard to get into a leadership role. They play favorites alot. Also at the same time, the way schwab works, is I could never move into management at my store right away. You have to move and run a smaller store.

bro who cares you dont know anyone, whats up with mt people and not wanting to move cause they dont know anyone? i dont et that? i used to live in wa and or, you will never regret moving there i promise. HUGE subie community over there. and tons of nice as people. or has a lot fo hippies but htey are real hippies not like the lazy ones around here. i mean they are all dirty but these hippies have jobs and pay taxes and shit. this would take 0 thought from me if i were you. i would have been packed and ready to go alreay. you will be fine and you will make new friends. trust me when i say you will never regret moving to or. you will love it. and on the plus side you can go se the ocean whenever you want! and fresh sea food not week old frozen. fresh fruit and veggies not 2-3 days of shipping on a truck. and wo cares if you have a wife and kid take them with you if you did. it wouldbm be better for everyone involded. oregon is a great place to live and the only other st besides here with no sales tax. my family and i will be moving there in about 1 1/2 years and my bro will be moving there in about 2 yrs and i know a few other people who are moving to or in the next 5 yrs! MOOVE TO OREGON YOU WILL LOVE IT!

Not sure if you've decided yet, but if they need somebody "asap" maybe you could wiggle some more pay or benefits out of them.

Would the change of scenery make things any different? A stagnant job in MT is the same stagnant job elsewhere, but with no obligations (kids, wife, house, etc) it might be worth a try.
