| This is actually kinda funny. "speedtrap"? really?
I checked out billings and great falls. Funny stuff. I wouldn't consider any of it to be a "speedtrap". It boils down to they are doing their job. And if you're too dumb to see them then you deserve a ticket. lol They are almost always parked in a fashion where you can see them.... weather it's before or after they clock you well.... that's your problem.
I just think its funny that someone took the time and effort to make a website dedicated just for this. Ironically I've never had a speeding ticket.... unless you consider the old conservation ticket which I received one. And the real ironic part about that one is it was the one time I was not speeding. The guy in front of me was. lol. But whatever... I looked at it as making up for all the times I didn't get a ticket. And it was like $5 and didn't go on my record so big deal right?
I have had more close calls while having a radar detector in the car however. I think it makes you more lazy as a driver and reliant on a tool other than your eyes. I have been driving down a road at night and thinking this car sitting up there is probably a cop. But my radar detector hasn't gone off yet.......hmmmmm. So i slow down..... drive a little closer then my radar detector goes nuts. lol dang it! what do you know..... he had his radar gun off until I was right there and couldn't do anything about it. good thing I was going a decent speed before he turned it on.
I just feel that your eyes are the best "speedtrap" detectors you can use.... so use them.
I thought for sure however a few summers ago when I was in Chicago that while I was speeding down the interstate and went under a overpass to have a "camera flash" go off..... I thought I was definitely going to get a speeding ticket in the mail from a traffic cam "speedtrap". But nothing ever came in the mail.... IDK!

| In all honesty you can speed all over this town. I dont typically do it, but when I am in a hurry to get somewhere I will. It also has to do with what you're driving as to whether or not they notice you. They may tell you they don't profile cars/certain vehicles, but they do. I can haul ass across town in my Powerstroke and will never get a second look. I can be doing the speed limit in my car and get stared at... just don't drive stupid if you're in a car that attracts attention and you wont have a problem. Also, dont be speeding in a high traffic situation. Its one thing if the road is wide open, but if you're weaving in and out of cars, not only are you a douchebag, you will also get noticed.
Loud exhausts dont help you any to stay under the radar either...

| Lived here since '95 and I typically drive 5 over the limit.
Only twice have I been stopped for speeding.
Once on parkhill going 35 in a 25. Wanted to get home - had some new mushkin RAM waiting to be installed in my computer. lol
Second time was 67 in a 35 and I got a careless. This was over by Pacific Steel. And yes, it was foolish and yes I could see the officer. I saw him in time to get it down from 87 to 67 before he clocked me. It was a dumb spot to speed in and I gladly paid the fine.
I have passed by cops numerous times in my old honda civic going 10 over the limit and never been hassled.

| Trust me, it is much worse elsewhere. Ever been pulled over and when the cop asked "do you know why I stopped you?" your response was "Because I am young, driving a nice, modified vehicle?". They don't like that, but in all honesty I wasn't doing anything wrong to be stopped. In WA, we used to get stopped all the time for typically BS excuses. "Follwoing too closely" while actually being many lengths behind the car in front of you, "License plate light was out, but it seems to be working now" - Uh Huh, sure officer.
If I were in WA and drove my car regularly I'd be stopped all the time, just because it is a Honda that is modified. No other reason. They would constantly run my VINs, try to nail me for anything they could (suspension mods, exhaust modifications, etc) and repeartedly do it. And WA isn't even as close toas bad as CA from what I understand. They just tow your car there instead of giving you a "fix it ticket".
In all honesty the officers of Billings and the surrounding area are extremely lenient. They know they've got better things to do than to stop and harass modified cars. They're well aware there are plenty of unsafe, res-runners on the roads here that pose more of a threat than someone who obviously takes care of and maintains their vehicle. Its as simple as dont drive like a dumbass and you wont have a problem.

| No sense in arguing about it. Every time I've been caught I admitted to it. When I got my careless he asked me if I know why he stopped me and I told him it probably had something to do with the fact I was going significantly faster than I should have been. He smiled and laughed at me and gave me the "you think??" look. Wrote me the $110 fine and went on my way. I paid it the next day without hesitation.
In CA that would've been a $400+ fine. Easy.

| Cops here are way cool in comparison to even Great Falls. Only once did I think for sure I was getting a careless ticket. And..... it was totally my fault. I just got done making a track bar setup for my car with hiem joints and alighned it and went for a drive to test it out. It was about 11:00PM and I had wondered downtown and found myself headed down Montana Ave toward the "S" turn onto 1st after the tracks back behind trackside autobody. Nobody was around except this white Ford Taurus with 3C licence plates next to me...... and I love that turn...... and it was back when they had just re-paved that road..... and so...... i crossed the track and pegged that zig zag turn about as hard as I would dare on public roads with curbs...... even though the tail did slide just a bit..... it was beautiful. Nailed the turns just perfect. Other than just speeding up (ALOT) for that turn and hitting it (REALLY) hard.... I was driving normal. so I looked in my review mirror about where the new bumper to bumper is now and what the heck? That freaking Taurus was a unmarked detectives car! Flashing lights in the freaking sun visors! Well I pulled off into a side street..... he verbally repromanded me and I told him I understand and that if I was a cop that saw that I would have pulled myself over also. Hechecked my registration and insurance.... licence.... asked where I worked..... and he wrote a sitation (i thought).... and handed it to me and told me not to da that anymore and have a good evening. I thanked him for doing his job and to also have a good evening. He drives away...... I look at the "sitation" ....... and it was a warning for going 35mph in a 25mph. WOW! | |

| I've noticed they are pretty easy on speeding. I did 10 over in my GTO everywhere and never got a second look.....not that they could have ever dreamed of catching me anyway. I only got pulled over once and was doing 10 over and just got a warning. I do the same in my truck now and never get a second look. And just from experience and having a best friend that is a cop, they do profile cars. Anything that looks like it might have drugs is a huge red flag. Especially young people in hopped up cars or really shitty non maintained cars. Plus tickets here are freaking cheap. Oklahoma has a minimum $120 fine on any speeding ticket regardless of how much over you go. It may be more now. Past 15 over is somewhere over $300. | |
