| Anyone know what the price is to get permanent tags for you plates here in Montana? I've heard "tiwce the normal amount" and "3 times the normal amount" but nothing for sure. Anyone have them and know for sure? I want to get them on the Venge since I won't be getting rid of her ANY time soon lol.
UPDATED INFO:
Charges for permanent tags are as follows:
- 1x charge for "MHP Salary and Retention Fee" - 1x charge for "Motor Vehicle FWP Park Fee"
Plus the following:
Cars - 3x amount of vehicle tax. Trucks - 5x the GVW
Additional Charges:
$50 addition for Personalized plates ($10/year + 4x = $50) Fee for bullshit Debit/Credit "Convenience Fee" = $4.75!

| When I was down there they told me it is right around the price for 2 years worth of tags. If you're planning on keeping the car longer than that it's worth it. | |

| So probably around twice the yearly amount, perfect! I plan on keeping the Venge for quite a few years to come so it's totally worth it. Thanks!! | |

| For the 240 they were $100, totally worth it if I hadn't sold the car ha ha, then re-registered it again with perm plates and then sold it again! | |

| For regular cars it's a super deal. I payed extra for my truck since it's a 3/4 ton. Something to do with work related vehicles (farm & ranch, etc) being more.
I just love not having to renew it every year. Those "out of no where" bills feel like a slap in the face. Especially if I just spent all my "extra" cash on parts.

| it's a curse.... don't do it!
I have paid for lifetime alignments on 3 different cars. Never was it a losing event since I would get my cars aligned offten for SCCA events. However I ended up selling all of them after thinking I would hold on to them for several years!

| yes cy they do let you get personalized, and for my cummins(of which i sold :facepalm total was like $550 when just a year was only $104 or something of the sort..but they do charge extra to get permanent if its a truck, a diesel, a four wheel drive, and quite a few other things, of which my truck fell under the category of alot of them. | |

| When getting permanent plates they charge you 3 times the taxes part of the license fee. It is not three times the total amount, ony the tax portion. They also charge 3 times the personalized plate fee if you want them. The main difference on trucks is the GVW tax. | |

Once you get permanent plates you don't ever have to get tags/renew your car again. Its a bit prices but will save you money in the long wrong.

| I mean if you have perm plates on one car, then sell that car, then buy another car, couldn't you transfer the plates to your new car? Cause I've done that with the perm plates on my motorcycles. | |
