Making projects easier Empty
PostSubject: Making projects easier   Making projects easier Icon_minitimeJuly 9th 2011, 12:12 pm

So for some time now, I have been having to move project vehicles around or going to get donors to help in the aid. Each time I have had to borrow a trailer to accomplish this. In some cases something happened or a deal comes up and a trailer is needed asap, and its always those times that its the hardest to find a trailer to use. So to nip the problem, I put my wallet down to solve the problem. I purchased a Tarnel 20ft tilt bed trailer. Every other time I have loaded a trailer where the vehicle isnt running I have had to use come a longs, and good ole fashion pushing power. That gets old fast so I also picked up a 8k lb warn winch. I will start a project thread for it when I get everything set up. This is going to be one B.A trailer. I think im going to install a battery on the trailer to run the winch, install some flood lights to help see, and possibly a compressor and tank. Im going to try to set it all up on the trailer to where any vehicle can tow the trailer and still utilize the equipment.

Very similar to my set up, except mine has a steel bed (HEAVY) and a dovetail with slide out ramps. Getting lowered cars onto trailers can be a real PITA. I always wondered how well it worked with these tilt-beds. I put a cheap ATV winch on mine and it pulls Subaru's up no problem, even just using an extra car battery when I should be using a deep cycle.

Nice! I like the thought of a winch! Nothing like pushing a car up ramps when it is dead to make you feel like there HAS to be a better way!

I too bought a new trailer last week (new to me anyways). I installed new carpet in it last Friday and did some minor work to it. Tomorrow I am painting the ramp door and putting down some texture/decorative flakes for traction on it.

I am planning on putting windows in it up front I'll install myself), as well as an A/C unit. The A/C probably wont be roof mount though. I don't want to put anyholes in the one piece seamless roof it has. I also plan on adding exterior lighting to light up pit spot and some sort of make-shift sleeping quarters.

Ooooohhh now that is nice! I would love to have an enclosed trailer, but don't have the towing capacity and don't want to buy a truck. I have seen people with fold-down bunks on the walls, which beats sleeping in a tent for camping.

That is very nice! I wanted to buy a enclosed, but for now a flat bed will work better, but some day I will get one. Today I was finally able to get some work done. Its not alot but, I bought some "FLOOD" sealant and coated the deck. Came out pretty nice, still need to put one more coat on. And tomorrow if I can find time I need to go buy some steel so I can start making my battery box. Installed a starter guard reserve power module so if the trailer battery ever draws from the truck it will disconnect the trucks battery allowing you still enough voltage to start it....yay No more dead battery!!

I like how well lit it is inside too, the nice white walls and ceiling probably help a ton to dispense the lighting. What are you going to hauling in it, might have missed it but I didnt see any d-rings to tie anything down.

This is a before and after of the deck on the first coat. After on the left, before on the right. Nice chestnut color. Well see how it is after the second coat is on and dried. The deck was so dry before I coated it that it sucked up the "flood" like a wet/dry vac.

Decking on the trailer looks good. And the picture of the carpet is before I cut it out for the D rings (It was a long day when we installed it). It does have 8 D rings in the floor, I think I have only cut the carpet for 6 of them so far as two were in a location I don't think I'll use. The previous owners hauled motorcycles with it, so I think that explains all the rings.

I'll be hauling this with it:

Over the past 7 months it has become more of a race project than a street driver. It will be street legal, but with as much $ as I have into it I doubt if I will drive it on the street much. I am too paranoid someone will hit it and I will lose my ass on the car. After I get it boosted, the next project on it will become a 3 piece fiberglass front end and a re-spray as well as a cage (once boosted it better need one, or I'll be VERY disappointed).
