Alright you Sort Compact people. I have been talking with YDS for awhile now trying to talk them into having something for us!! And today they called saying they would allow a Sport Compact class on July 24th!! So this is a call out to everyone that owns a sport compact fast or slow, be out there enter Sport Compact class race the day away and show your support at YDS. If we can show them that we want to have our own class we need to be there in #'s . This might be the last chance we get to have our own class!! Now I know we dont need our own class for every race but it sure would be nice to have 3-5 races a year that we do have a Sport compact class get to line up against one another!! So let me know if you are willing and able to show up and support!!

Also in talking with them.. We could possible do heads up racing if everyone would prefer ( on heads up I would need a head count on how many to make sure it can happen)!!! Also got the green light to raise the payout purse if we can get some sponsors to contribute to payout purse or prizes!!!! So as you can tell I am hoping to get a good turn out and a good payout. If you have any ideas lay them on me. Secondly if you know anyone that would like to Sponsor this at all let me know and I will give you contact person (they are working a nice plan for those who sponsor this !!) And finally everyone on here knows enough out of towners so lets see if we can get some to travel here.. Sure if we can get purse up, some will!!

So if you are in lets get a list going! Like to try to get a head count, helps in selling to Sponsors!!

That date is kinda tough. It's hard to turn down the trip to Lewistown to drive a straight line, but if I can't go to Lewistown it would be kinda fun to find out how slow the D16 really is.

They are putting on the class for sure on 7/24/2011. Pay out will just depend on how many attend!.. I am sure Yds would love a Sponsor for it though so let me know..

I am trying to get people to sponsor money towards a payout larger than say if we get a full field which needs to be 8, trying to make it more appealing to out of towners to make the trek!!

Ya I noticed it was on same day as Lewistown! Wish could of gotten different date but didnt want to be difficult seeing as it was a big enough challenge to get them to even agree to do this for us!!

Here is my .02, in order to get enough cars to make this possible it has to be bracket racing. It needs to be a race that everyone has a chance to win, even the 22 second stock cars. We need to get as many new people out there as possible, and give them a reason to keep coming back. I dont think that will happen with heads up, it would be pretty discouraging to show up and have to line up against a 10 sec race car with your 15 sec daily driver. if we could get two classes ,one bracket ,one heads up would be the best. but in order to bring in out of towners to race heads up would require a good set of rules and a decent pay out.Just my thoughts.

Agreed. It's a shame that the date is the same as our 2nd Lewistown, as I'm sure this will narrow down your attendance Sad I know for a fact I will drag the Venge at least once this year, but mostly just for a time slip.

You are correct! And as soon as I can get an idea on how many will show up then I will discuss more in depth with them on which routes to take.. So hopefully people will start saying if they are in or not and their preference!!

So our you in (tenthelement)? heads up or Brackets?

For us personally it would depend on rules, payout, and quality of competition. We wont come to race heads up against 11 and 12 sec cars. That would not do any good for the sport. As far as bracket racing we would not even consider that with the neon, but we could bring a few Wyoming cars for that.

I have nothing against going out to the drag strip every once in a while..... but there is no way I'm missing a chance to actually drive my car at Lewistown vs. just bang some gears in a straight line. But like Todd, I would just be there for a time slip....

You don't have a sport compact, I mean, it is sporty and compact but I don't think they'll let you race your bike in it Smile.

I guess I could go get some 16s in the MINI, not sure if I'll want to beat the weak stock clutch like that but I usually like to get at least one timeslip for every car I have, maybe that will be the "one".

MINI should do better than 16s I bet. If I had to guess I'd say high 14 to low 15.

Ben, you know my scenario. As long as work allows, I will be attending. Bracket, or headsup, I just want to race.

Probably true, but I know to set my expectations low when taking a car to the track for the first time.

Rules will decide the quality of racing. If you have mid 9 sec cars racing heads up against mid 12 sec cars it will seem like a joke for the spectators, and nobody will want to watch. Also racers wont travel to an event that they feel they dont have chance at winning, so the rules are in place to keep races close and interesting.Common rules are different weight limits for different combinations, tire restrictions, turbo restrictions, etc.

As for payout consider what it costs to race a heads up event, for instance our race fuel bill alone would be $150 for a 8 car field. Would everyone willing to race heads up be willing to pay $100 entry fees so payout might cover some expenses

And finaly quality of competition. How many of these cars are 135 mph legal. It sucks when you show up to race heads up and half the cars get booted because they dont have proper safety equipment, certified roll cage, competition license or catch pan.

Please dont think this is only about us, we plan on being their testing that day regardless of what is decided, but we do race all over the western U.S. and know plenty of other races who might be wiiling to come and make this a bigger and better event .

Show its a lewistown event. Which a lot of ppl are gonna be there but I say who ever wants to do this we should have a meeting bout it cause its easier to have ppls input in person cuase ben got the time for this so we should maybe at least give this a try an see how it plays. Out only thing well b out is time. An effert for now

One thing we have to remember is this is by no means going to be an IFO or similar event!! Let me say that as of right now I am just trying to get enough Sport compacts to even commit at this point. And even if I can get enough to lock down that they will show up and how they would like to race then I will work on seeing about classes.. But lets say by some miracle we get enough people to not make excuses and to just show up commit. Then if possible I would like to do a open fwd turbo class, bracket class and well lets face it if we can pull that off I would be suprised!! AS for open heads up turbo class I dont think it matters whether one car runs high 9's to low 12's lets be real if we can get a min 8 Sport Compact cars to show up that run those times stands will be plenty impressed, plus lets remember at any moment are cars are common for motor or tranny failure hahaha ( and honestly I am trying to do this for us as a community not the people in the stands atleast for this year) Lets just try to get it where we can even have sport compact class at strip in future then maybe we could turn this into a annual event, with more structure rules etc etc!!

As for payout If I can get min of 8 car field of 11.50 or faster cars I would do everything in my power to get pay outs as follows.. 750 for 1st 500 for 2nd and 250 for 3rd.. If thats not worth showning up for I dont know what is.. But 1st lets get people to commit then I will get a lock down on heads up class!!

As for the beacket racing well payouts would be what ever track does for how many or in field

Where are the 9 sec street cars at? Never seen one up here.

where does it say anything about street cars? The neon is a sportcompact, and has been running 9's for over a year now, and we're hoping to get into the 8's this year with the new setup.

I figured since 99% of the people here drive street cars, that was what they were talking about.

Not trying to come off as a jerk! Just asking a question? Havn't you only ran in the 9s' couple few times, then got plagued with issues? By the way 9's are in impressive and I hope that one day I

can get the SOHC beast to run a couple 9's!

Also good luck on the 8's from what i hear that is a very hard door to open!

It ran in the 9's every time out last year with the little turbo, hell we even went 9.8 in Denver with d.a. over 10,000 feet and a 1.9 60 foot. We didnt start having trouble until we switched to the big turbo, and started trying to run 8's. Now we got the problems figured out. We know it wont be easy to get it into the 8,s, but got to keep pushing ourselves or it will get boring. Early test this year have already shown major improvements over last years setup, and the new motor is not even here yet.

This is sad only 3 people have committed to attending something like this!! I know there is alot more Sport compacts on here cuz I have read post about them either whining that MT doesnt have anything for them to do, have read peoples words of them building or owning some kind of car that they could race fast or slow doesnt matter . We need your support for this....

So lets go I am calling out all the internet racers! Time to step up! Show your support!

Sorry Ben,
I think thats all we have here in MT is internet ricers. They like to complain and want more stuff but noone is willing to commit to anything. Samething happens in the auto-x scene too so don't feel bad. PLus if you raise the price a little bit to make it more of a commitment then they freak out and just won't go.

hey guys it looks like you are not having much luck getting people to take u up on the sport compact night.if i were you i would try to set up the friday night street legals like they did years ago.the car count was up high.i am not saying you have to run with us non fuel injected gas guzziling non efficent heavy weight cars, but the car count would be high and you can still run just a compact class.it would be nice to see a full interior 100% STREET LEGAL sport compact car run with some of the old muscle around town.i dont mind what you sport compact guys are doing.i think it is impressive to see a we little motor run fast.if you combine the to classes it will be a great turn out.just my two cents.

Well talked to the track and we have the green light to go. But for a heads up class of our own we have to have a 16 car field. So lets see if we can produce this #.

Also what would you guys like to see for a entry fee. If we do anything over 40.00 the track will throw in anything over that as a payout.. So I was thinking 75.00 but you guys give me your input.. Just trying to double up the payouts..So let me know how much you guys think for a entry fee!

The Friday night street legals is something that someone would need to bring up to the track.

Alright just got off phone with track today and got the word that a 8 car min field for each class will work for July 24th Sport compact Race. So its on and official now. So I need whoever is up for attending ( racing) in this event to pm me your name, #, car, and which class you are going to race in.

Classes as of now are.

Fwd forced induction heads up class

Sport compact Bracket class

And we will look at adding another class if there is enough requests but at this time I think this is plenty.

I am expecting/ hoping you MT Sport compact people to step up and sign up for one of these classes! We need to come out in #'s if we want to have a chance at any future Sport compact classes/ races at YDS..Plus one would think you would want to support something like this not like we get many things specific to us..(now I know the road races will be in Lewistown and I wish could of done a different date so that you guys could attend, Sorry!) So get to filling my mailbox up!!

And remember doesnt matter if your fast or slow, this is about supporting Sport Compact class, having a good time and meeting some new people! ( so put your egos and pride aside an support this)
