So i have a 91 Honda CRX with a JDM B18c in it. I just bought Hondata S300, and I am going to have to learn how to do this. Is anyone a master at Hondata? I am open to suggestions and recomendations. Please give freely. Also I already bought it, so dont tell me to buy something else, that wont help.

I would suggest you seek out a tuner local and have them tune the car for you. There are a few guys in the state that are familiar with tuning hondata!!

Well I am not boosted yet, so it will run fine on a basic basemap. So no need to pay for someone to not do much at all... That also defeats the purpose of me learning.

Well I will tell you this that a basemaps are just a starting point and are meant to be tuned even if car is just stock. Trust me there is a lot more involved in tuning that system then loading a basemap. But good luck!!

you ask for help, then don't accept any help when you get it...makes no sense.

The ecu will come with nothing more then a basemap loaded on it from Phearable. I am trying to save yourself time, aggravation and money in the end by suggesting you have someone who knows what there doing tune it for you.

Okay, maybe I am thinking about this wrong. The guy I talked to said the car would run fine with the tune they would send me on it. It is pretty much stock engine wise, and will run like stock. So a custom e-tune maybe is the correct name, or custom basemap. I know it would not be the best thing in the world I am sure, but enough to drive on.

Here is the thing. Unless I am completely wrong about what is mentioned above, then I still dont see why you guys are saying go get it tuned. Spending several hundred dollars on a tune on a basically stock car doesnt make sense to me. It also defeats the purpose of learning to do it. That is the main reason I bought it, to learn to do it myself.

I asked for help and suggestions on tuning the car. Myself. If I wanted to take the car to get a tune, I would ask who to take it to. My goal here is to learn how to.

I think what people are trying to say without actually saying it, is that tuning is kinda like an art. But there is right and wrong. And when you're wrong the engine goes boom. Everyone is wrong at some point in their learning curve. So the price for learning most times is blowing up an engine or two. Learning is encouraged... but the price in the balance is your engine. So keep that in mind. And why folks tell you to save time and money and heart ache and just have whoever pro tuner dude tune it for you.

Thanks yeah. This isnt my first ride that I have built and helped with or seen blow up, so I know the risks. If it goes boom, then it goes boom and gets rebuilt even better. You dont baby it so it doesnt brake, you make it to the best you can, learn in the process, and run her like she was meant to be run. Hard and Fast!

First off great choice with the S300, damn good value ems no doubt!

Have you already picked up the S300? Installed it yet?

It sounds like you are very interested to learn how use the hondata software and tune yourself yes? I see your in Billings, do you ever make it over to Missoula?

looking forward to talking with you more,
eric

S300 is a great choice, but ultimately my question is "Why?". You're stock ECU does just what it should to run that STOCK engine. I could see if you had internals, extensive headwork, were boosted, etc (then its a necessity), but why on a stock engine?

And tuning isn't something that should be taken lightly, not to mention if you're asking on MAEC you're in the wrong place. There are a ton of websites out there that have thousands of pages on how to tune cars - looking to MAEC for advice on how to do it shows me you don't know where to start even...

I'm not trying to shoot you down, I just don't think it is in your best interest to be fucking with it.

Thanks for the actual input finally. The answer to why is. The car is basically stock for now because I am fine tuning the suspension and body and everything else and just want to have the car running solidly. After that the motor will be pulled and built with eagle sleeves, forged pistons, rods, getting ready for the 600 hp it will be getting from a Precision 5858.

I was by no means going to do exactly what anyone on here has or would say. I asked on several sites, but was hoping to find someone with extensive knowledge here in town to help. That isnt reaching very far...

So those are the answers.

Hit me up, i am happy to help you out with the 600hp B series project as well as the chassis you are putting it in Wink I have built and tuned my share of high HP hondas (B, D, K, F, H series) While living in AZ working with Vivid Racing and Full Race.

It sounds like you have a good idea of what will be needed but are just looking to talk to others who may have some hands on experience with this type of build.

I am currently in Thailand working so you wont be able to ring my MT cell but here is my contact info.
tuning@brewedmotorsports.com
Skype: ericvernonfl (i am on skype sunday-thursday ~7pm-1am your Mountain time)

Feel free to hit me up, if you don't have skype email me your cell and i can give you call if you'd like to chat.

Best regards, Eric
