Actually thats about all the patch i have touching the ground. If i had a slick it would be wider, but a curved street tire only has a few inches of actual contact patch.

Anything can happen on the street.
Speaking strictly power to weight the C5Z06, C6 (non Z), 03/04 cobra, and the 05-09 GT500 are all pretty close.

oh i wasn't saying you wanted the fastest street car. i personally have a different out look on the vette thing then you do. the Z06 is one of GM's hottest vehicle as in power wise. if i had a Z06 it would be a ground pounder. racing a stock corba or a stock gt500 would be no fun. it would take a vehicle that was modded good to run. but that just shows the difference between us cause for the most part you seem to want to keep your smostly stock. i on the other hand would have it modded to hell. it just makes the most sense to me. you have to hottest car gm makes so i would want to back it up every time i rolled up to another performance street car. but thats just how i see it. i guess one day we will see. my plans are to buy a Z after i get the SS where i want it.

LOL, but that is a damn fast truck man and so much more than just a quarter mile vehicle. Really though, if your goal was just to have a stupid fast street car, think of the money you have in your truck put into some other "more specialized" 1/4 mile vehicle. Hell, most of us are like that, sure you can take a fox mustang, throw a few $$ at it and go run some fast times, but not all of us want that to show for our work, money and time.
Not really knocking any of our efforts, but unless we're running top fuel, we're not really close to the fastest 1/4 mile times.

There is always the lure of having a fast vehicle that has all the comforts and amenities (working AC / Heat, nice stereo, good sound proofing, comfortable to drive across the country, etc). I absolutely loved my Z06 for that, it was by far the best all around car I've ever owned. Sam might be crazy enough to cross country his Mustang, but I'm not so hard core. My Buick would absolutely destroy my Z06 in a drag race and has a lot of lure in a classic sense, but day to day, give me the vette.

i get what your saying tom. i by no means want the fast street vehicle. i just want something that will shock people by how well it runs and still be able to take it to shows. but it seems we are always wanting more out of what we have. when i first got my truck i said id be stoked to run mid 13s first time to the track i ran a 13.57. then i wanted more so last time i had it out to the track i went 12.53. Mid 12s were ok for awhile now i find myself wanting more. maybe someday but as of now i just want to be able to drive it for a season without breaking it. i could drop 30k on it if the fund were there and still not be done with it. but for now im just going to get it up and running again and just enjoy it next year. no more performance mods for awhile. i break it enough the way it sits.

I think it's safe to say if we all had unlimited funds many of us would have cars built up as far as you can go with them. And it would all happen a lot sooner than it does otherwise. We always seem to want more but I think sometimes you have to decide to be happy out of necessity. This hobby can eat you up financially. lol
As far as the red rocket putting six car lengths on the 2011 mustang goes.. I would be shocked. What I want to know is if the corvette loses - will we still read about it here?

I'm kinda figuring that the C5Z and 5.0 have about the same HP (I'm pretty sure the Z06 is a bit underrated, is the stang too?) but the Z06 weighs maybe 500lb less and 100lb = about a tenth (14 feet per .1 sec @100mph) and about one car length, thus I guess I should have guesstimated 5ish car lengths.
I'd further guess that a stock 5.0 will run a high 13 @ 103ish at our altitude (sea level is very high 12 or low low 13 @ 110ish, DA corrected to say... 5725' which is a not bad day at the track here = high 13@103) , my Z06 ran a 13.4x@108ish in similar conditions, which would fit well with about 5 car lengths theory. Obviously depends on the car, driver, and day. At sea level, stock C5Z runs 12.4ish @ 116ish, so that fits well with 5 cars at sea level difference too.
5-6 cars still seems reasonable .

Vette should be right at 405 to 410 crank hp. I think the stang may have the hole shot, but the vette should take it by 1 to2 lengths.

OK my bad. I'd forgotten that 4-5 tenths ends up being that many car lengths at the end of a 1/4 mile. Just seemed like a lot to me. But after re-thinking things that seems accurate.
Almost all the mags are in the high 12s with the 2011. End user results are typically in the same area, 12.7-12.9. Bone stock car.
The context of my response was framed around a street race though and in that situation I highly doubt you'll see six car lengths... Unless they really wind it out. That said it's the street so who knows lol

ok, this is complete honesty with no biased brand bashing... it is obvious that the z06 has more power/ is the faster car... I drove the 5.0 for about an hour...don't get me wrong here...it goes good...not many cars out there will beat it stock... but no comparison of the z... my powerband starts at a 1000 rpm less than the stang...pulls harder.....................the 5.0 has a SHORTER THROW shifter compared to my Z (even after I installed the 08 Z06 shifter) win or lose I will post what happens lol......my dad right now is already looking at mods.... before he races me....but he doesn't want to void his warranty... I found on fordracingparts.com a kit that includes a tune, k&n filter, and high flow mufflers and oil filter for 750 bucks.... He is looking into it to make sure it won't void anything (he also bought the extended warranty) and we will see what happens.....if it were up to me i would like to race it stock...then modded...if you guys know of any other parts that won't void the warranty let me know...

Technically none of it voids the warranty since they would have to prove in a court of law that the mod caused whatever problem the car needs work for. That said who wants to end up in court lol
If it were me I wouldn't think twice about a CAI/Tune package. But I wouldn't get the FRPP one. They aren't as good as the other aftermarket ones from brenspeed or some of the other vendors. They aren't going to cause a problem and if the dealer tried to give you BS over it I'd go find another dealer. I've never had problems with Archie service department as far as an intake/tune goes. I know Kelly the red team service manager over there flat out told me they "don't care" about that.
The 2011 has just as much power, if not a little bit more, than the Z does. At least as far as peak power goes. The disparity comes about because of the weight issues.

The GT500's are very quick! I agree that it takes a lot of money to make the power they can make at the rear wheels. you spend $1000 bucks on one and it will lay down 525-550rwhp. I have 2 of them running around town at that power level. But they never take them to the track so they could probably get beat by something making a lot less power. I will be doing a big KB on a 500 in the next few weeks, and the customers goal is around 650rwhp on pump gas. I will let you guys know what happens with it.

Just one other thing you forgot to consider...its not just peak hp...but how much power the car makes throughout the entire rpm range (super important in road racing)...a better word would be power band... I have plenty of power from idle up to 6500 rpm with it really kickin in at 3000....the 5.0 doesn't really do much until you get it past 4000.... that is why in motocross (used to be my main sport) a 450 4 stroke will beat a 250 2 stroke every time... they both make the same peak hp...but the 4 stroke has a huge/wide power band and the 2 stroke must be revved to stay in the power band... (and yes...a 4 stroke has to be bigger displacement to make the same power as a 2 stroke for those who don't understand)......
lol, anyways....what about the steeda cold air and tune kit? I personally was tellin my dad to get the diablosport trinity... I will have to tell him to call archis and see what they tell him about voiding the warranty and what they will let him get... any suggestions would be appreciated...

They also have a Steeda. You can't go wrong with either and the gains are going to be nearly identical between the two. The gains mainly come from the tune and less so the intake by itself. If you don't want to buy from brenspeed there are various other vendors like VMP or JDM that also sell packages.
Gears are also a big plus and will help significantly with acceleration. Just those two things right there will make noticeable improvements and are not extremely expensive. Particularly the gears. Those should be cheaper than the intake/tune even. I recommend Profab locally for the install. Did a good job on my car.
After that I would consider a tire upgrade and some cheap suspension work like lower control arms to help keep wheel hop in check and help the car hook up from a dig better.
BTW, check out this link right here. This is a STOCK 2011 GT and he scored a 12.7 ET @ 110. After the intake/tune package? He knocked off two more tenths and managed a 12.5 ET. http://www.s197forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46769
My prediction? With a 2.0 60' or better I think a well driven stock 2011 GT should be in the 13.6-13.8 range trapping around 105-107. This is at Acton. When you race your dad I think it's your race to lose - but it should be close enough that there isn't gonna be much margin for error.

Just throw a shit ton of boost to that mustang and see what it does. If your buying something to go fast, and modify, then dont bother with the warranty. Otherwise leave it bone stock if your worried. I beat the shit outa my bike since day one. Even told the dealer id let them know what it does in the 1/4 the day i got it.

I think cost is an issue in this case. Hence the "throw a shit ton of boost" at the car kind of goes out the window bro. Trust me, I wish it was cheap.

i know how expensive it can get. Motorcycle parts are more expensive than car parts.....for the most part

Brenspeed does make good tunes, but they are in Indiana and there customer service has gone to shit since some of there good guys left. Riptide, thanks for mentioning me for parts and tuning. rocket_z350, I would stay away from diablosport for the fords. SCT is a lot better of a tuner for the mustangs, diablo is better for the GM stuff. If you talk to any Ford performance shop they will tell you that. And if you need any help let me know!

@K&K
I didn't realize you had stuff for the new cars in the first place or I would've mentioned it. I'm not intentionally trying to steer clients away from you if that's what you're thinking. I've never had a problem with anything you've sold me in the past or any of the advice you've (freely) given me.

agreed, sct for ford product, Hpt for gm. If i owned the stang the very first thing done would be exhaust (besides the tuner). got to exhale to inhale. then the Cai would be 2nd.

He'll pick up significantly bigger gains with the intake and tune than he will with the exhaust on these cars. Not to mention the header install is a pain in the ass without a lift.

In math i call it "order of operations". its like crawling before walking, not walking then crawling. think of it like a garden hose bigger diameter hose less work for it to flow.
you will see a better gain from a tuning stand point with exhaust then cai.

Riptide is right, somewhat. LT's and full exhuast no cats will net you the about the same as an intake and tuner. And the tune and intake is way cheaper and the install is cake compared to a hole weekend job with the headers. Pretty much if you are not installing LT's then the exhuast is just for sound.

I carry performance parts for all years of mustangs. You wouldn't steer customers away from me.

agreed on the full exhaust, but how i figure it, if you can afford a $475 (just a estement) car payment, they can prolly drop $1200 (just an estement) into a good full exhaust.
BTW Brett@k&kperformance can fulfill all of your parts and tuning needs!

Well... the only way to know is to race lol...which looks like its gonna be next spring....but I am gonna do a couple of things to the z... I'm hoping to run a 13 flat next year....not to mention I got the launch down pretty good in the z now (my times i have posted were with a 2.3 60 ft. time...)
