When I was living in Great Falls my machinist up there Bob Brown had built a MG midget with some aluminum v-8 small block it was really cool. My Dad in Great Falls has a 1974 124 spider I rebuilt the engine in it for him.... I don't like the 124's though.... feel like they're falling apart when you drive them... lol shakes and rattles yuk. Mine shakes and rattles too.... but it's solid. Mine shakes and rattles because half of the engine mounts are solid heim joints and it's trying to stay idling with a big overlap cam. lol.... cams like this in 4cyls make me smile.... and lightened flywheels... good combination. Still not awesome powerful but fun.

Yup.... I only have mapping done for like idle and some throttle blipping and moving it around in the driveway. But gosh darn it..... I love the sound of that cam with lightened flywheel. It's kind of funny the first few times I was blipping the throttle I didn't quite have the perameters set in the laptop for my laptop gauges..... and when I blipped it to 5k the whole laptop tach gauge was flashing red cause the redline in the program was set for 5k. lol.... I was like oh.... that's got to change! 5k is where this engine STARTS to breath good. lol Actually the cam should come in right before 4k.... and then its rocket to the moon RPM. Ok so..... maybe a S2000 will still wind up higher. But I'm building a car older than most the members here. So the rev limit of 8400 will just have to do. lol I still think a 4cyl strugglin to stay running at idle because of a beefy cam and some good compression sounds freakin awesome. Matt R was by today for a bit and I started it up for him and he's like.... wow.... sounds like a v-6! lol freakin loud..... WITH a REAL muffler! lol

| Well heres another update. been kind of bumed lately cause nothings been working out. but i've been trying to get a map in my standalone for this thing so it will actually move under its own power. Made contact with another guy in the country thats running a very simular setup and he was nice enough to share his map with me which really helped. But it's not just a map tats close enough to dump into my ecu and just use. I have things just different enough that I still have to mess around with a few settings but the baic format is usefull. So last nite I find these setting which are working real good reving up in the garage... wake up this morning and go for a drive..... WOW! I never imagined that a 1.5L 4cyl could make low end torque like this normally asperated. I am still lacking in the above 5Krpm area with my tune.... but yeah... Now I feel like i'm getting somewhere. it's nice feeling like progress is being made. so hopefully it will make it to the may29th event in lewistown even if its without a paintjob. | |

well it's not far from driving the streets now. I'm in the middle of making a 1978 camero alternator mount on the car so it does something extra ordanary.... like charge the battery for a change. The OEM alternators are useless. Well I think my VE tables are pretty close... Played with a few more things today... It pulls to 8K RPM now pretty decent.... but when I have it set up fat enough to do that it's too rich at idle and won't stay running at idle. So I'm looking for the sweet spot in my settings that still give me the fuel for high load high rpm but doesn't drown the engine at idle. seams like this thing is going to be a pretty fun car in the scca realm.... and can say right now that even though this 1.5L is pretty impressive for what it is... its not going to be enough power. but it will still be enough power to make it fun. It's still a good thing I have a huge power increase planned after the car is all sorted out. I am at that point though where.... don"t be surprised if you see me out rollin around in this next weekend with a laptop duct taped to the dash. lol

is she getting a turbo?? well... as sad as this seams.... I do have a turbo sitting here begging to be put on something. But this little 1.5L is cammed up pretty radical and its at 11.1:1 CR.... so.... I'm thiningmaybe august time I might just hang this turbo on it and see what it does before it blows up! lol Then when its blown up I'll have a reason to proceed wth my REAL power increase
