PostSubject: Looking for a good tire.   March 21st 2010, 9:05 am

Ok my rear tires are almost shot. I'm saving them for the first burnout contest that I make it to this year. I need to replace the rear tires pretty bad, but I want to get something that is gonna hook up on the street and at the track, and still be good to drive on a daily basis. Anyone have any suggestions?

micky thompsons drag radials are your best bet , the hook hard at the track an last pretty good on the street
i run the hooser drag radials they hook hard but dont last as long as the mickeys on the street

im buyin mickeys this year for longevity . i still think hoosers hook better but dont last as long

dont use nittos they suck , i know owned a set and my 16 sec shitbox could spin them , and they were 325s

I've never heard a good thing about Nitto tires. Mickey's are what I was running at the track on my old stock rims. I like them a lot, Just kinda worry about the daily driving part. I had a bad experience with them in the rain before I moved up here. The other option I had tossed around were the BFGs. I had a pair of them when I first got my car and they seemed to do alright. Probably didn't hook as good as Mickeys, but seemed to perform alright.

bfg r pretty good probly lst the longest outta all the drag radials imo

its kinda a curse bud when u got a car that can run as fast as urs has .

problem bein any of the drags radials just dont do very well on wet roads , bfgs probly the best. but id go with mickeys
bein that all these r fairly soft compound i generally have gone threw a couple sets every year . usually by mid july i need another set . lol kinda sucks but i like gettin sum traction reg tires just spin an spin an spin

I was just looking at the BFGs and the smallest tire they make for an 18" rim is a 275/35/18. That might not fit my 8" rim very well, especially considering that BFGs are normally wider than other DR's.
Now Mickey Thompson makes a 245/40/18 and a 265/40/18. Both of which would probably work alright.

why in gods name would you put a wimpy width tire on your car? shit man, if you can stuff a 305, or a 315 on it, why not, it makes for a bigger foot print when launching and helps out in the sidewall department. which also helps launching and overall goddam sex appeal.

Well if the genius that designed these cars would have been thinking, I'd be able to fit a 305 or a 315 under it. I actually did, at one time, stuff a 315 under it on a pair of stock 17x8 rims. They rubbed inside and out. A 305 might be possible on a wider rim, which is not an option for me just now. I might try the 275 BFGs out and see how they work.

Oh I know they are. My first set of DR's on this car was BFGs. I never could get a good 60ft with them but the worked pretty well on the street and even in the rain.
The MT's I had and went 11.52 on, got me the 1.5x 60ft so I know they hook awesome. It's just a matter of driving them every day. I went off the interstate at 70mph with my MT's in a rain shower just before I moved up here. That wasn't a pleasant experience. I just don't want to recreate that again.

well shit, you need to pick a side then. mt works because there is more rubber hitting the road, as opposed to bfg's having a way more open tread pattern(causing them to wear quicker)also allowing better traction in wet conditions. personally, i would get the tire that works. and try not to drive in the rain. when they are both bald, neither work on wet roads.

I had a set of Advan 048s on my Impreza a couple years ago and they are by far the best tire I have ever owned. Those things stuck no matter what I threw at them.
