| Hey I need some nissan guys in here to teach me a little about 240sx's. I wanna learn more about them, might get one in the future when i head off to college. I kind of know the basic s13 and s14 difference and how they look different. How easy are the engines to mod? how many upgrades are there? Are they fun cars? just gimme some insight, Ive always kind of liked them | |

| I was all excited for a moment thinking you were talking classic Datsun 240s. I say do one of these... Short of his misguided use of a Ferd motor in there, that would be a great fun project. All that room in front of the motor, SCREAMS centrifugal supercharger. Anyway, don't know much about 240sx, sorry . | |

| Give them some time, I'm sure they will post. Or you could do some research yourself on the Nissan forums. | |

| Sorry I didn't take my computer home last night. But i think we can answer all your questions.
The engines are very easy to modify. If you have a KA you can boost it and make around 300hp on a stock block with a turbo kit, tuned ECU, new MAF and injectors.
If you have an SR swap then you can make 400-450 hp on a stock block that will run for years if you treat it right. All this would take is a new turbo, MAF, Injectors, exhaust and cams. Really easy to get a lot of power.
If you want you can also go LS1, 2JZ or VH45 swap, these cost a little more for the initial swap but can make for some crazy cars.
The best thing is they are simple motors for the most part, and the owners have tried a lot of things to make lots of power out of them. Parts are much cheaper than a lot of other cars, and there are a ton of parts. They also make great parts for the whole car, suspension, brakes, interior, exterior you name it they make it for 240's with exception for some of the newer aero stuff life diffusers, but unless your building a full on track car who cares, and if you were then you would probably build your own anyways.
To learn more check out Freshalloy.com or Zilvia.net they both have tons of Nissan related info, Freshalloy is slow nowdays but the info archived on there is worth its weight in gold. Some very smart people on there. Zilvia is full of cheapskates and wanna be drifters so don't take any comments too serious. If you have any questions as you continue to think about this let me know. I've personally worked on every single part of my 240 so I know it pretty well, and I own just about every part they make for them so I can let ya know where to pick up any parts or a car. Zilvia has tons of cars for sale that you can usually find good deals.

| Jason gave you the good overview on the car... so I will chime in on the "use" of the car. They make great track cars as he mentioned they make just about everything for them and you can find a good price range on all the parts from dirt cheap knock-off's to crazy expensive one-off peices.
In regards to daily driving them or having them as your only car. My personal opinion is that is retarded. Once you lower the car don't plan on driving it whenever there is any moisture on the road. Yes there are people in billings that do it and yes there are ways to make it somewhat safe... I just think at that point it becomes a waste of a the car. Also they are old, so expect for there to be all the issues that come with old cars.
Not trying to be a downer on the subject because I do love the cars... just wanted to give you some feedback. Lots of people overlook the fact that lightweight rwd cars don't mix well with Montana weather.

| These cars are notorious for RUST and lots of it. You will see a lot of people swap RB's into these cars. They are super fun cars to drive but the front end seems to be super long when you are in the drivers seat. If you are series about getting one of these and you want a project I know where there are a few of them, but they do have some rust problems. I might be picking one up here in the next week without a title, but if I get it I am going to get a bonded title on it .......... Oh I just looked back at the title are you looking for a 240sx or a 240zx??? I know where there are a couple of both if you are really thinking about getting either. | |

| Thanks guys that's some really usefull info. I wouldn't drive a 240 in the snow. I drive a mustang in the winter now and it's bad enough. I'm headin off to college soon prolly in Arizona and don't wanna take my 5.0 down there. I think a 240 would be a nice car to have and I love fixing and modding cars so it seemed like a cool car. What do they usually go for? And I'm talking about 240sx's not zx | |

| I picked up my S13 for $800.00 from a bunch of crack heads (No Joke they had to get there Pipes and Meth out of the trunk before I left) and that was a stock project car. You could pick up a nice fast back like this: http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/cto/1736654597.html If don't mind traveling to get a 240 they are pretty easy to get a hold of for pretty cheap | |

| if your going to arizona for school wait to get a car until your down there. 240's are a dime a dozen down there and some are rust free arizona cars. Just don't get your car jacked down there.... with any car craze comes lots of thefts!
I would also check out emission laws for other states... certain places like California are super strict on engine swaps. Not sure how Arizona is.

| Yeah for sure, the theft is the reason I'm not talking my car down there. I'm diggin that 240 but not the price. Looks good tho. Cool cars if there done right. I'd like to do most of the work myself, just how I am | |

| stay w/ the ka, cheaper to build + the ka comes with the car. ka24 if done right should last forever if you stay away from engine detonation. my homie has been tring to destroy his on 15psi making 340rwhp for the longest time, and runs that poor thing HARD as hell. the tune will take motor a long way if correctly done. plus the ka has nice TORQUE from decent displacement and if you are going t AZ for school my homie will take care of you for sure!keep me posted | |

| My biggest gripe with the KA is that there still is less aftermarket support. Although its come a long way the last few years. Luckily Ivan loves the KA so AMS did a lot of work in getting new parts for the KA. But for the power to cost ratio its hrad to beat a SR.
Personally if I did it again I'd go VH45 then twin turbo it with twin 2871's for quick spool and crazy power. Probably get 500 whp out of a stock block with cams and bolt on turbo setup.

| i know my ka can only go so far with its 240k miles on it but once that blows like everyone said parts are everywhere. even tho its stock and old the car still drifts with just a few backyard mods (intake, exhaust, injectors, and mild tinkering) all it needs is an limited slip diff and they get sideways no problem. as for the moisture problem if you not ready to go sideways it dont care the car will go sideways. i drive a 95 240sx its green with simple mods. i dont know much about cars but the motor is easy to mod the piss out of. if your going to make it a rally or drag car then your going to want to swap it out for something with a lot more power and some boost. this car isnt easy to lose weight on unless your replacing your panels with carbon fiber. the seats are light and foamy, the carpet isnt the heaviest and the stock sound system can be curled in one arm. again easy to work on, expect problems, and if you need help you can research the nico club forums as they have thousands of pages just for the 240sx as well as before mentioned zilvia. | |
