[FALL] Dragon Overhaul!! [Pics included]

That is exactly what I was wanting. The whole purpose of me painting my car was to learn and then start spraying on the side making some extra cash.

I am planning on building an addition to the shop at the house just for automotive stuff, so as soon as that is done we will be good to go for painting.

for sure let me kno cuase it does need a lil body work then paint so no rush on that lol

Well next week is the last week of deck season for the year, so I am going to get started on another overhaul. I am going to start with pulling the motor/tranny and getting all excess stuff out of the engine bay and move forward from there sandblasting/painting under the hood. I have yet to figure out what color I am going to do this time, but I am sure it will be great whatever it is. Pulling the motor/tranny is going to be the worst part of the project for sure, not to mention removing all the wiring/hoses from the firewall for painting.

I am on vacation in a week so I hope to have the project done by then. After I am done with my car I will get started on everyone elses. I wanted to get another round of painting/clearing in now that I have it figured out and make sure I have the skills to do this for club members. Wish me luck.

Well I ordered my paint, clear, sandblaster, hood pins, and new wing today. Going to start the project next Saturday and hope to have it done in less than a week. Going to be quite a haul I am sure.

Depending on how short my deck week is, as I only have a small one to do, I may pull the motor before the weekend. Saturday will be the transmission and then I will start tearing everything else out of the engine bay getting ready for sandblasting.

Let me know if you need any help Mikey, I'd be more than willing to lend a hand.

I will let you know Zach, we will need all the hands we can get on Saturday for sure to get the tranny out. Fricking thing weighs a ton.

Motor and Trasmission are out. We had it pulled by 4:00pm yesterday and it was a bitch as usual. Going to pull the center diff today and hopefully the plug is undone and wont need to do anything more. If not, I guess I will order a new one and go from there. I will also be sandblasting the enginebay today. YIPPIE!

Really hoping to make some progress today, but I cannot find the motivation to get out to the garage. I am sure after my 2nd nap I will be rested and ready to rock.

I was actually going to take some yesterday, but I never made it out there. I decided to relax and take a lazy day, but as for today, it is game on!

Center differential is out and the wire was plugged in. Gay. Now I have to figure out if the problem lies in the diff or the sensor.

I also sandblasted the engine bay which took about 2 hours. Sandblasting is super gay (this was my first go round).

Got lazy today and watched movies again. Sure is hard to get out to the garage on vacation. Well going to strip the firewall down tomorrow and possibly paint. ???

i hear you there. thats why my sub boxs took so long. to easy to just sleep in and be lazy.

Considering I barely even left my bed yesterday, today looks to be more exciting. I guess the only thing I have planned is running down to the TS office and getting the shirts, but that is something. Have not left the house since Sunday!

Here is a few pics of my progress. Might paint tonight, but I am not sure. The Bird and I are celebrating our 6 year anniversary, so we will see how things go.

Here are a couple shots of the engine bay all painted. Single-stage takes awhile to dry, which is really gay as I want to start putting it back together. I guess tomorrow is the day.

Being this is the first time I have sprayed a Single-Stage I have found a few pros and cons.

First for the pros would be you only have to spray the paint and you are done. Second, it is an Acrylic paint so it is very durable. Third, saves quite a bit of money if you dont decide to put a clear on.

First for the cons would be if you screw up, YOU ARE SCREWED (of course this depends on if you are using a flat or metallic). Second would be it takes forever to dry (twice as long as clear).

For the most part it is a 50/50 split in my book. After starting this project I dont think I would ever Single-Stage my entire car, at least with a non-flat color. More than likely I will be redoing the car the right way with base/clear. Might try and use the low gloss clear I bought for the Single-Stage and see how that looks (I will try a test panel first). I believe using a SS on the engine bay was a great idea as it is super durable and dont have to worry about clearing.

Pretty excited to get my transmission parts and get her up and running again.

Well i am off to the garage to hopefully get the enginebay back in order. Wish me luck.

a one stage in sunlight will fade much faster than a clearcoat also. its much easier to match colors if you have damage to like a fender with a clear coat also.

Just got the engine bay re-wired and cleaned up. Cut out quite a bit of wiring that was not being used which makes it look way better.

I ordered the plug that feeds power to the center diff and of course it was the wrong part. Going to a hopefully successful plan B. I will be drilling out the plug hoping that it is just wires routed through an epoxy housing.

Just out of curiosity, do you have that center diff still? I would like to see if the OHM reading is the same as mine.

yep still have it!! did you have continuity in the wires to the DCCD?

I had about .8 ohms checking the plug on the center diff.

how about the wires that go from the trans to the DCCD connector?
