| Because I love hunting probably more than cars I figured I would start a thread now that elk/deer archery season is nearing! Share pics and stories
Anyone had any success with Antelope yet?
My goal for the year is get a whitetail buck with my bow and hopefully a 350+ inch bull on my Wyoming backcountry hunt!

| I'm taking up pistol hunting. Hoping I can sucessfully bag an antelope, deer, and elk with my revolver. I'm very anxious also. | |

| Thats a nice buck. I wish I could find one like that. I haven't figured out this hunting for deer or elk yet. Last year was my first year to hunt up here in Montana. I'm used to whitetail hunting. | |

| sweet looking deer! I assume your hunters orange was just removed for the picture or you weren't in MT?
I see big deer and elk all through archery season, but never in range. Then I get all excited and take my rifle out thinking it is giong to be awesome. Then I show up and I don't see a single living animal with horns. I gave up on horns and did shoot a cow elk last year with my rifle on the last day of hunting.
I forgot, I guess my story is not entirely true. I shot the front leg off a nice wide 5x5 muley opening morning last year. I tracked the 3 legged prints all day and never found the animal. I thought for sure it was dead, I shot it at 200yds on a super steep hill. Once I pulled the trigger it piled up and rolled down hill. I firgured out afterwards that it just fell when I took it's leg off and then ran out of the drainage in a dith. Always sucks to loose a wounded animal.
I will look around and see if I can find my pictures of the bear and her cub that almost ate me last year. I had a bear above my head about 5' while I was turkey hunting along the river.

| those are some pretty long shots! You like the challenge of far shots, or just not big on stalking animals? I thnk the farthest I have every shot an animal (and killed it), either bow or rifle has been under 40yds. Not that was my intention, it has just worked out that way. | |

Well, in Oklahoma where it's flat as a glass table, you've got to be proficient at a long shot because most opportunities come at the least opportune times. The antelope I stalked from about a mile away and ran out of terrain to keep between us. The herd bedded down on top of a large flat hill and once I came into their view, I was about 400yrds, I belly crawled until the got skidish and made my shot.

I need to set something up to shoot that far on a regular basis. That would be a fun challenge

| Because I no longer have good conections to private ranches, I spend a good amount of my time searching for public land that can provide good opporutunities for big aniamals. I finally found a tool that will help me out a lot, an overlay for google earth that shows who owns the land or if it is state/blm land. A friend of mine from school acutally started this buisness so it makes it that much cooler. www.klmers.com | |

| Nice pics everybody. Especially of the bear in the tree. That had to have been a little freaky.
Any other bird hunters out there? I might go shoot a big animal this year (first time). But I'd rather have a scatter gun in my hands any day of the week.

| going to give it a go tomorrow and head out with my bow. Talked with a guy tonight just coming off the property that I am going to hunt in the morning and he said there are two monster whitetails but they seem to have gone nocturnal the last few days... hopefully they will come out and give me one shot. Should be a good time.
gears all packed, now just wait till 5am!
