| I have been trying for 2 days and I just want to be done. I am worried that I am gonna hurt it. I just need some help. Some info: the car turns over, i have variable timing, dual cams, and I don't know, whatever, I'm fed up. | |

| arrows are all pointed up? aaand i think the piston that fires first is supposed to be at top dead center, but double check that, thatll fix it if its a timing problem | |

| whats going on??like as in whats the problem with the car is it not starting at all? is it starting up and running rough? Did you try changing the timing belt yourself? was it running fine one day and just die on you? im kind of confused as to whats going on with the car? | |

| Ok, here's the breakdown. It is the escort engine with the variable timing. My variable timing solenoid was bad so I changed it out with a new one. I do not have the tools to get the balancer off, but it still lines up at the arrow and at TDC at the same time. My cams have a slot in the back that need to be lined up with a special tool (which I have) when #1 is at TDC. I have also followed instructions on how to make sure my variable timing is in the correct place when the belt goes back on. The first time I put it back together, I was 180' off. I changed the issue and I am getting the same results. The car turns over but does not fire at all. It sounds healthy still I guess, but I don't know what to listen for. I feel like I have followed directions and got excellent advise about it so far, but nothing is working. | |

Don't feel bad.... even professional technitians hate the timing on this engine. lol.... They are easy to mess up. if you have the tool for the cams..... AND you are parking the Variable cam gear AND you are locking the crank at tope dead center with the OTHER special tool..... then it usually works out ok.... usually. lol If you think your correct with the timing..... I would do a compression test on the engine.... lets hope no valves are bent.
