| Just got the 2-step all wired in this weekend and for some reason my car is leaning out like crazy while it is bouncing off the rev limiter (4000rpm). It was to my understanding that the MSD box is suppose to stagger the ignition pulses which I would think make the car run more rich. There are no retard function specifically for the 2-step on the box, so I cannot retard the timing that way. If I retard the timing VIA the Autronic, then I will have a huge hole in my timing when I am driving my car. What do you guys think?
I am actually waiting to get a hold of MSD about this, but I thought I would throw the topic out there to expand the knowledge base.

| Like I said on the phone this is normal. Just thought I would post in case anyone else in the future has this experience. Anytime you have a misfire your wideband should display lean, this is contrary to what you would think but because of the unburnt fuel you will show lean even though there usually is fuel coming out your exhaust. | |

| Thanks again Jason. Just wanted to clarify and make sure things were correct. The last thing I want to be doing right now is a motor build. | |

| You really just have to keep your eye on the EGT's with a 2 step. Can get hot real quick with all that retard and unburnt fuel that will ignite over time and pop. | |

| i also did a little snooping about the soft touch and 2-step functions, and in all actuality, you would show lean due to the fuel being basically in a raw state versus an atomized and combusted state as it would be after combustion. everything is normal, and more boost can be obtained through retard while against the 2-step. have fun, and blow fireballs would ya | |

| My Autronic dealer is telling me not to use the function. I am going to give him a shout in a minute. He said I can actually get it done through the computer in a safer fashion. | |

| The MSD one is not nearly as complex as the options through your Autronic. With the Autronic you should be able to fine tune the ignition cut to get as much boost as you want. Most 240 owners launch at 18-25psi off the line. I can't even imagine that. Especially since I never have figured out how to get traction even without boost off the line. Guess thats why I'm still cutting 1.7's. | |

but the entire issue of using an msd 2-step isnt to build boost, its to level out your rpm's so you launch consistently. getting a f/i car to make some boost while doing the 2-step is merely an icing on the cake kind of thing. i use it to build boost too, which im kinda scared of because its only a matter of time before i find the next week link in my setup.....
