| Hello all! I have an 02 wrx wagon and am having some isues with it. Lately, (more like since end of Jan.), it's been surging and bucking a little bit, (and getting worse), when every you're slowly excelling or have your foot off the gas when delcelling getting down into the 2000-1000 RPM range. I do know I have a small leak in my turbo inlet hose right where it connects to the turbo intake, but don't think it's the cause of this. Anyone have any input? Thanks | |

| If that air leak you talk of is post MAF sensor then it may very well be the source of you're problem. Just think.... the computer knows how much air is comoing into the engine by looking at the MAF. If there is more air sneaking in around the MAF through that leak then the computer can't properly create the right air fuel ratio. | |

| Sounds exactly like a leak somewhere. If its post MAF but pre-turbo it causes a lean condition as air is sneaking in that is not sensored. If its post turbo it will cause it to run rich as the pressurized air is leaking. Fix the leak you know about and then pressure test your intercooler piping.
Just for reference TPS is Throttle position sensor, this can also cause these sorts of problems but if you have a leak even a small one will cause what you describe. If its a boost leak it can get so bad your car will stall out or buck like you hit the limiter.

| I'm sure it's the leak coming from your inlet hose as it is pre-turbo. Get it patched up and post your findings. | |

| Thanks for the info guys! I apreciate it! What should I use to patch up the piping as it is right on the turbo flange that the rip is? I am guessing I can't just use the all powerful Duct Tape? Also, this would not be permenant for I am going to replace the hose itself with a silicone one when I can get the mula to do so. Probably in the next month or so. Thanks again guys! | |

| as ghetto as it may be, duct tape would probably hold air for a few minutes without boost. Might be a jimmy-rig way of identifying if that is in fact your problem. If mcgiver (sp?) can save an airplane, I would hope you could fix a boost leak with it.
I assume yuo don't have an air compressor around that you could just leak test it?

| duct tape can getto fix it temorarily.... but i would just be worried about duct tape diet results if the turbo ate any of it. realistically.... just fix it with the proper piping. | |

| check your timing belt/chain. my truck had the same problem. i took the whole motor apart and replaced everything while i was down there, crank sensor, cam sensor, knock sensors, coolant..ect... and the water pump along with the belt. they stretch after about 50k and need replacing. if it breaks its so long for an interference engine. just watch out. | |
