well these are the seats im thinking of getting for my monte because they still have the classy old muscle car look that i like and would probably look pretty sweet with some red 4 point harnesses.

Why not just get bucket seats with harness slots in them? Pro car has them. And remember u have to mount harnesses at a 45 degree angle or smaller otherwise it'll compress your spine if u wreck. So get a roll bar too or find a solid place to mount them

Yeah for sure. But grab your summit catalog I know they have bucket seats and pro car has them in summit as well. Get a main hoop and some support tubes and at least get a solid roll bar in. F20b or whatever his name is can weld up the bar. And I have harnesses layin around but I like them lol. Allot of choices for harnesses, I bought mine because they are quick release with a button, Not hook and latch

You could definately wake that engine up with better heads cam and intake. That would be the way to go. HCI maybe a different carb and gears! And that thing is a boat! Weight reduction as well

Your best bet is to go with some edlebrock, trick flow, or dart heads, a edlebrock intake manifold, and a comp cam, or just a bigger out of the box cam. That would wake that engine right up. Throw a new timing chain, push rods, and rockers on and you'll be haulin ass. But you'll need bigger jets and/or a better carb.

i would say buy a fairly high performance 350 off craigslist or something, before trying to build yours.

na man build your own. It's cheaper and u can put better parts on it. And the fact u built it yourself. Built not bought. I'm always here to help, not a chevy guy but still. I would build your motor yourself dude

Carb engines are the easiest to work on. And a heads, cam, intake build is pretty simple and straight forward. You just gotta have the parts and dive in and do it. How else will u learn

haha billy ive torn apart my truck engine 3 times. yes 3 im still in the learning process. may be a ford engine but the principle is the same. im definetly gonna build my engine since it would be wayy cheaper and i would defintely know what its capable of.

not saying you can't, but its a 74 engine, its old, newer ones are more high performance, and less weight stock, thats all i was saying.

there isnt any major changes in the engine. thats actually when they didnt have all the emissions and everything and just detuned the engines because of the racing bans that were enacted. my engine would actually be easier to build.

yeah Andrew already has the 650cfm carb. just need the intake manifold and we can slap that on. that will wake up the engine quick compared to the stock Intake Manifold and the tiny carb already on it.

Dont just throw an intake manifold on there, you also need better flowing heads, and a way for all that extra air coming in to get out. Headers and a free flowing exhaust. ooo and dont forget a mild cam.

Then gears gears gears

Nik has got it down pat.

A good set of heads, even stock heads that have been worked over, an aftermaket intake with a decent carb on there (bigger isn't always better), and a healthy exhaust system and you'll be doing good.

Keep your old motor. If you take all the emission stuff off, it'll be just as good as any older motor, without the pain of a wiring harness swap a new engine transplant would need.

And to be on topic, those seats would look badass!

yeah thats what im planning on im probably gonna upgrade from the stock two barrel to a holley 4 for the intake and get a new manifold obviously, but im definetly looking at getting exhaust built because it wont only sound better but it will definetly flow better and ill strip the emissions which wont be tough haha cause my car didnt even come with cats.

They go hand in hand, If u throw a better intake and bigger carb the heads are not moving as much air as they could be so u aren't seeing the full potential of your parts. And if more air is goin in more is coming out so headers and exhaust is a good idea.

And I built my car with a solid foundation first, doesn't improve any horsepower but at least I know it's all copesetic and ready to take some serious power. Do it right or don't do it at all.

If you do headers you might as well do the rest of the exhaust, dump it out before the rear axle.

When you are ready to tear into the engine give me a shout. I usually have an assortment of intakes and heads from rigs I have parted out. For a budget build vortec heads to raise the compression, mild cam and intake would make a huge difference. If you have a little more cash, a roller cam vortec shortblock would be a nice starting point.
