No drag racing next year? [Track has been LEASED!!]

I always thought that would be neat too. Hang out in the lot and find people to race....go line up at the tree and have some good old fashioned drag racing. That might be one aspect of the drag racing I don't like..... it's almost too professional and rule controlled. I realize safety is important but come on.

from what i heard all they will be runing is 4 races this year. thats just what i have heard from a guy that knows the menholts well. he told me it will be 4 of the biggest races????

by the way, track has been leased by gillig performance, set to reopen in may sometime.
this is good news because he likes cars.

Yes, it is going to be open. So far there is no schedule, but I am sure there will be more information in a few weeks. We should try and get a hold of Mr. Gillis and see if he will have more Friday Night Drags.

This is great and the best news I've herd in a while. Keep us updated on the schedule and how many races. I have to adjust my weekends now.

Sweet, i can see what my tank will do but any word on the road in? We didn't even go out at all last year just cause of the road.

you can gaurrentee the road will be no better, just slow down and get to the track anyways
just because the road sucks, it doesnt mean you cant go racing, it just means leave earlier so you are still there on time.

Actually the road is better than it used to be. I remember when there were huge potholes all the way down. Now it seems pretty smooth for the most part. I will probably end up trailering mine out there anyway.

you always trailer it there. oh wait so do i. i wouldnt drive down that road in my truck for nothing or any nice vehicles.

yeah i still need to change it. i dont have any good pics with the wheels and the dark windows. maybe ill shoot some photos after wrok tomorrow.

Thats good to hear. Couldn't be leased by a nicer guy. I remember racing him a bunch of times. Always very nice and likes all types of cars.

yeah he is aq nice guy. but if u talk to him gillis will never stop he has stories on top of stories . omg i dam near missed a round last year becasue he followed me all the way back to my pit talkin botu the gtood ol days . hell of a nice guy though i threw a rocker the same weekend and he came right over to help me fix it

Well i talked to gillis him self today. I ran into him at APC. he said the first races will be may 1st. so thats good news. he also said he was doing some friday night DOT races. he said the cars will have to be full DOT approved. he told me they will have to have DOT approved tires, it will need to be insured and have current registration. thats coming from gillis him self. he also said there will be some money givin away on the DOT approved night. i dont know for sure all the details of it but this is what he told me today. dont hold me to this but this is what he has told me.

DOT: department of transportation.
it means they are legal for highway use

i love the fact my hoosiers r dot approved

basically anything that says radial on it is dot. not to mention all dot tires are labeled DOT right on the sidewall.

sounds like this year might not turn out so bad....always good to hear and i'm curious what mine and a few others are running now that we've all had some time to tinker. i'm still interested in the KOTS thing but obviously i think anyone would prefer a track if for no other reason but time slips. lovin the updates from the ppl who know ppl...thanks again for the info guys

Thats good stuff josh. hope it holds this time. have you messed with a 4L60E tranny. its just a 700r4 but electronic. only reason ask is cause im thinking of building one for my truck just to get the experience. i wouldnt be building the tranny in the truck id buy a core somewhere.

i figure if i want to run like a 3.73 gear, i'll look into the overdrive transmissions, but for all extensive perposes, a powerglide is what i chose because turboes really dont like to have a drop in load, a p/g loads it all the way down the track, better acceleration i think. and i run usually 3.08's, but its got 3.42's init right now.

I like the full DOT approved thing. Hey josh, maybe line up some king of the street races for the friday nights? Call someone out, and run in front of everyone so no excuses? Ive got a few people in mind......hehe
