| I've run viscosity curves on a lot of oils and I swear Mobil 1 is hard to beat. Also has the additives you want in a car that is driven on the streets. | |

| I've never really found anything out from doing a few UOA's so I gave up. I do inspections on my oil filter and cut it open regularly but my oil usually still looks clean when I change it.
My biggest problems with Royal purple were that I saw higher temps when I ran it, and when I used RP tranny fluid my car felt super notchy. I think in all reality after 11 years of testing asphalt and oil that oil is oil for the most part. None of it will do anything magic. So run the name you trust and make sure and do regular changes and you'll be fine.

| What they seem to be good for is seeing if anything in your engine is wearing abnormally. They can alert you to a potential issue before something catastrophic happens. Kind of a peace of mind thing. I know quite a few diy engine builders have done them to make sure everything is in check on a fresh engine build. | |

| well, beings my new engine is hydraulic roller, i use a non synthetic(usually delo400 or rotella) 15w-40 or 20w50 because of the heat created by the bushings in the turbo. and i try and change it about every month depending on how many passes i make with it. | |

| What are your clearances? It causes more harm than good running thick oil on stock clearances. I'd stay 10W-30 for all but highly modified engines with large clearances. If I remember Mike you were running close to stock clearances? If so stick with 10W-30, if you get really hot oil temps maybe try a 0W-40 or 10W-40, but avoid anything 15 or 20W unless your clearances are really loose.
Thick oil has a much harder time lubricating everything when its cold, like on start-up. This causes way more damage then running thinner oil that can lube it up even when cool, even on hot days, most synthetic oils can easily handle 250+ degree's before breaking down. Even if you stay above that temp for a while it takes a while for the oil to break down enough to cause damage. I see this too many times when people get premature engine failure from running thick oil. My clearances are double the stock clearances or I'd still run 10W-30. On a stockish engine I'd stick with what the manufacturer calls for, even cars that add aftermarket turbo's or more boost. If you must run thick oil for some reason like drifting or an engine that is sealed up and runs hot, then use a pre-oiler system like an accusump, or better yet run thinner oil and a good oil cooler.
Anyone building an engine you can call most oil companies and tell them your clearances and they will tell you what oil to run. Thicker oil also kills oil pumps faster due to the added drag.

| That's fine but really its overkill, it really depends on your clearances. If they are close to stock I would run 5w-30, 10W-30 when its really hot out. But the 0w-40 won't hurt anything. | |

| 5w-30 is thinner at cooler temps so you get more blow by before the engine is warmed up and sealed its best. A little blow by isn't the end of the world if you have a functioning catch can setup it should be able to help the engine seal up better too and help get rid of the blow by. | |

| Mobil 1 is a great oil, I'm just leery to use it as plenty of Subaru owners have experienced the magic disappearing oil while running Mobil 1. | |

| TRY AMSOIL and you'll see the difference. like i said, if you want to use WALMART oil, Mobil 1 is the best . i use to use it but i found out that it burns too FAST and is super THIN. i meant crap as in CHEAP! but again its just my opinon!!!!! | |
