[FALL] Dragon Overhaul!! [Pics included]

Well as some of you may know I was planning on painting my car and making it gorgeous again... Well, IT HAS BEGUN!!

Here is what I am going to call [PHASE I]

Overall the bumper looks pretty respectable. I am going to bondo up a few little holes and put some re-enforcement fiberglass behind the lower lip. I also cut out the center section that used to go across the intercooler.

nice mikey. one day id like to do this to the SS. how long you thinking it will take you to complete? who's going to be painting it for you?

My goal is to be done with the project by the week of July 10th.

I will be doing all the body work and painting myself. It was a goal of mine to learn how to paint, so I figured this would be the perfect time to learn. I painted my side skirts last year and they turned out great, so now I am just going deeper into the rabbit hole.

Actually I am going to take my time on the project and do more than I was originally planning. I am also going to do the hood, trunk, side skirts, rear bumper, fenders, and painting the some of the shell.

i thought you said no porn? Should look sweet when done!

you are one brave soul. im not a big fan of body work. i went to autobody school for a year and it wasn't my thing. i could't do it for a living.

I sand for a living, so it really does not bother me. It took about 5 hours to get the bumper done today. All I have to do is fill it and I will be ready to move on to the next piece.

Just went and bought a bunch of fiberglass and bondo, so hopefully before the end of the day I will have some pics of my progress.

Of course it is raining again so a brother cannot work.

I hate paint prep work!! Probably the biggest thing that kept me from getting a job as a tech! Looks like some good progress Mikey, can't wait to see how she all turns out!

So will everything be the same color now? Meaning no more carbon fiber? If so I think that will look amazing, if my car wasn't black I would have painted my carbon fiber.

I have not yet decided that. I have been kicking that around since I started the overhaul. The sunroof for sure is going back to the stock one, but I am just not sure about the hood and trunk.

Here are some new pics from today. I re-enforced the front bumper with 3 layers of fiberglass and I made covers out of fleece and fiberglassed over that to cover the holes in my rear lip. I guess after this the next step is going to be the bondo, but that of course will come later after everything is sanded.

Here is the final step of [PHASE II]

I need to wait for it to dry now and then I will sand down the glass and fill with bondo. Pretty excited to see what this is going to look like. I am guessing I will be ready for paint after this weekend.

I have also decided that I am going to be painting the carbon fiber trunk/hood. Going for a straight look. Really hoping that it will look almost stock when done painting.

Sorry Mikey...but anyone knows anything about Subies, there's nothing now that you could do cosmetically to make it look stock. The roll cage and FMIC and Brembos kinda give it away.
Not say I don't like it...I really cannot wait to see what it will look like casue it was already SIIICCCKKKKKK...Nice work buddy...You never cease to impress us all.

Looking good Mike, I think its a smart choice to paint the CF. I think it will look sick being all one color.

Does not look like I will be getting much done on her today. I am pretty exhausted from building a flower box for a customer.

are you going to shave the handles and gas lid to?

The door handles will never be shaved as you need them for drag racing and the gas door I would like to shave, but I am not painting that portion of the car this time. That will more than likely be next year.

Just ordered my paint guns. They will be here Wednesday, so that means I am going to be very busy this weekend prepping the car. Also decided the whole car is getting shot as I may change the color up a bit.

This is what I was thinking color wise.

Red=Win! What kind of gun do you have? I've got my old Sata primer gun and a Develbiss topcoat gun I should probably sell since they've been colecting dust in my shed for the past few years.

I bought a full Develbiss setup with 2 guns and all the attachements w/ the disposable cup kit.

Well I just got done ordering all my painting stuff at the sum of $425. I decided to go with 2 gallons of paint so I have some backup. Hopefully be spraying next weekend.

Yes, the guns are high volume.

A few of the boys are coming out tonight and we are going to get the car sanded down and ready for bondo. Hope to be ready for primer by the end of tomorrow.

Well I shall be pretty busy this weekend. My paint guns showed up yesterday and I believe my paint and clear will be here today. Now I just need to get the entire vehicle sanded and ready to go. I am guessing I have about 10-12hrs of sanding to go, which is not too bad. Going to be starting with the sunroof and working my way to the trunk and hood. Forgot to mention the 4 hours of prep.

Hopefully have some pics before the beginning of next week.

I can't wait to see it all done Mike, this is the ultimate DIY project! I hope it goes awesome!

Yeah, I agree. I just hope I can get most of the bumps out of the hood. You can really see where they laid the carbon fiber over the fiberglass. I will try and use bondo to smooth it out as much as possible. For sure going to need more bondo!

Welcome to my NIGHTMARE!!! Cracked the paint to make sure the color was correct, which it was. Man I love the smell of auto paint!

One thing I admire about you Mikey, when you do something, you do it RIGHT!!

where are you painting?

I will be painting in my garage. I will be making a temporary paint booth and wetting the floor. Not going for professional results here just kind of a tester to see what I am capable of. There is no way it will look any worse than it does right now.

good to go- I was just curious. I was going to get my M3 painted but when I seen the paint "shop" I decided to wait. How much did that paint kit end up costing you?
